Training Methodology

Tammy the Trainer offers private in-home programs ,classes, phone consultations, and socialization meet & greet groups.  Personalized attention is given to every owner in every situation.  Special attention enhances the learning process and places less stress on the dog and owner.  When teaching group classes, before going to your first class,Tammy requires a One-on-One Private Lesson to evaluate the pup and give personal attention to you and your dog.  Understanding your unique situation enables her to solve any pre-socialization problems and gets the owner on the right track prior to attending the first class.  The pre-group One-on-One sessions are usually held in Tammy’s office in Manhattan at East 6oth St. and Second Avenue.

• Behavioral problems can be better assessed on the dog's home territory or where the problem occurs (street, park etc.).

Tammy understands that you, like many people, are faced with time limitations due to family, work, and other obligations.   She understands that everyone would like to have a well trained happy dog that you can take anywhere.  Maybe you're faced with behavioral problems where your dog is timid, does not walk on leash properly, has aggression over food, people, or other dogs; or perhaps, you just got a puppy and don't know where to start and need a puppy socialization play training program created just for you. All training is based on the dog's inherent pack mentality. Dogs communicate with voice intonation and inflection, body language, scent and touch. Each dog is unique and knowing what motivates them individually will get you the results you need. All training sessions are positive and end with great rewards for you, your dog and/or pup.

Tammy’s dog friendly training programs are created to fit your individual needs and lifestyle. “There is no cookie cutter mold.”  Tammy’s years of experience in dog training and studies of animal behavior give you the tools needed to make training easy, fun, fast, and effective. She will advise you on all aspects of dog care, nutrition, and grooming. Your dog is a unique individual.  What may be right for one dog may be different for another, and that’s true even when they are the same breed.

Training Packages:

Dog Behavior problem solving Phone Consultation

Fees: One Hour Phone Consultation: $45.00.  If you are having issues and need guidance with your dog or puppy, a behavior profile is taken over the phone.  During the phone consult, problems and goals are discussed.  Tammy does phone consults primarily for out of the area clients and Veterinarians to assist them in problem cases and to advise them if a pharmacoligical drug is needed with a training program.  Example: Aggression; seperation anxieties; phobic; and compulsive behaviors.  The everyday person may also benefit by getting professional advice and guidence on how to handle there recue dog or puppy, and, what direction to take from there to get them on the right track.  NOTE: Phone consultation sessions must be paid in full via our paypal link prior to the phone training appointment. 

One on One Personal Training

Fees: One Hour Private Lesson: $120.00 This lesson may run over depending upon the situation. It can be used for dogs of any age.  If your goal is to start things off on the right track with your new dog or just to solve behavioral issues such as jumping, not wanting to walk on leash, aggression, etc., this one time one-on-one personal training lesson may be all that is needed to get you and your dog on the right track. Note: any behavioral problems such as urinating in the house always consult with your veterinarian to rule out any possible medical condition.

Private Training Packages

Note: All packages must be paid for in full the same day and used within 6 months of purchase.

Puppy Package basic: Fee: $295.00 ( savings of $65.00 ). Three (3) one-hour lessons for pups up to five months of age. This is an extremely important time in your dog’s life! Your dog will be ready to be a teenager by the time he/she is six months old and that’s where problems begin if training does not start early. Some of the things included in this package are housebreaking, control of mouthing and play biting, intro to nutritional guidance, intro to basic obedience (see below), proper manners and or tricks (depending how fast your dog learns). Anything needed to get you on the right track.

Basic Obedience: Fee: $425.00 (savings $175.00) Six (6) one-hour lessons for dogs Six months or older. At this age, your dog is either in adolecence or beyond and may be exhibiting unwanted behaviors. This is a basic manners course and Tammy will customize a package designed to train you and your dog. This program can be combined with on and off leash training depending upon your needs. Examples of behaviors covered in this package include: come, sit, down, stay, and leave it.

Board and Train: Fee: Call for Pricing.  In association with Sutton Pets full-service pet care facility, Tammy will customize a unique training program for your dog while he is enjoying his stay.  This package can be geared towards socialization and/or basic or advanced obedience training.  A followup consult with the owner is required.
  
Group Classes, Lectures, Meet & Greet Dog and Puppy Playgroups

Note: All dogs must have proof of current vaccinations prior to participating in any group program.

Basic Obedience Class: Fee $245.00 This group class is fun fast & effective. It’s for dogs six months or older and who are dog friendly. You and your dog meet with Tammy for a One Hour Private Lesson at her office at 311 East 60th Street to address any problems you are experiencing in order to get your training started prior to attending your first group class. This makes the first class less stressful on the dog and owner. What follows are five (5) weeks of classes with other dogs. You will learn all the basics needed to have and maintain a well mannered pet. Because some dogs behave in home or in the classroom but not out in the everyday environment, some group training sessions will be taken to the street when weather permits. Agility and interactive play is integrated to make it fun and rewarding while your dog learns basic obedience (the basics). Each dog learns at a different pace so there is no pass or fail - prizes for accomplishments are awarded along the way.
 
Note: Please do not feed your dog 2 hours before class and wait one hour before feeding your dog after class.

Meet & Greet Dog and Puppy Socialization Lessons & Play Groups

Fee: Between $5.00 & $10.00 Call for Pricing. These fun groups are great for shy dogs, puppies under 16 weeks who need a safe clean environment to socialize in or just dogs who need a good one hour romp with others. They start on leash and Tammy explains how to meet and greet other dogs properly on leash . . . then off leash they go . . . to play together for one hour – but, only if it’s the right situation for the dog and owner.  “People do not like everyone they meet and dogs feel the same way.“ Tammy explains what to watch out for so there are no issues with owners or other dogs. The dogs romp and roll and some dogs make friends as do the  owners. Tammy explains what the dogs are doing, warning signs to look out for and how to handle your dog properly in dog parks, streets etc; “ most dogs do not want to fight it is the owners that set it off most of the time” Tammy’s years of observing, training owning and operating her own and Pieper-Olson’s Veterinary clinic’s doggie daycare gives her the expertise in this field.
